AI Voiceover Lawsuit: Voice Actors Sue Lovo for Unauthorized Use of Voices
Two voice actors are suing an AI company called Lovo, claiming it illegally used their voices without permission. They say the company tricked them into providing voice samples and is now selling AI versions of their voices.
Paul Skye Lehrman and Linnea Sage filed the lawsuit in Manhattan federal court. They allege that Lovo deceived them through the freelance platform Fiverr, where Lehrman was told his voice would be used for a research project, and Sage for radio ad test scripts. However, Lehrman later found AI versions of his voice in YouTube videos and podcasts, and Sage discovered her voice in Lovo’s promotional materials. It turned out that their Fiverr clients were actually Lovo employees.
Lehrman and Sage are seeking at least $5 million in damages in a class-action suit, accusing Lovo of fraud, false advertising, and violating their publicity rights. This lawsuit is part of a growing trend of legal actions against tech companies for misusing content to train AI systems. They hope to prevent similar misuse in the future and highlight the need for accountability in the AI industry. Lovo has not yet responded to the claims.
